Decorate Like A 1960s Beauty Salon

How do I Decorate Like a 1960s Beauty Salon?

If you have sweet memories of going to the beauty salon with your mother or aunt back in the 60's, why not decorate a room to capture those memories. Although many people are looking for the latest colors and styles when it comes to home décor, some people love strolling down memory lane to relive the innocent memories of a time long gone. Recreate a 1960's beauty salon by using popular colors, furniture and accessories from that time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the walls in a color that evokes the mood you are trying to create in the room. For example, vivid shades like orange, hot pink and yellow are considered stimulating and energetic. If you want to create a more relaxing feeling, opt for colors such as mint green, pale pink, baby blue and peach.

2. Hang vintage beauty salon signs in different sizes made out of metal or wood on the wall. Choose signs that show services such as perms, haircuts or manicures.

3. Purchase old magazines at a vintage shop and flip through the pages. Frame vintage hair advertisements about hair coloring, wigs or haircuts and hang on the wall. Advertisements such as Lady Clairol, Dep styling gel, Revlon curl hair spray, and Roux hair color shampoo ads were often seen in women's magazines.

4. Frame photos of hairstyles from the 60's and hang on the wall. Look for photos of 60's hairstyles such as the beehive, flip and bob.

5. Display items from that time period related to your theme on a table. Display items such as brightly colored plastic hair rollers, hair brushes, hand held hair dryers, barrettes and hair pins.

6. Line up mannequin heads that display 1960's hairdos on a shelf.

7. Use salon equipment from the 60's such as large bonnet hair dryers that have a large hood painted in hot pink, orange or turquoise. Steel frame salon chairs, formica tables and leather sofas were also commonly seen in beauty salons. Vintage equipment such as hair dryers can be purchased at auctions.
