Strategies Used By Longhaul Airlines

Long-haul airlines have the objective of providing inexpensive international travel over incredibly long distances. With this service, customers can see the world more easily as travel becomes more economically viable for them. For example, some airlines have tailored specific flights to Sydney, Australia, from different hubs around the world for a lower cost than other airlines. A number of different long-haul airlines exist and they each employ a number of different strategies.

No Classes on Planes

Many long-haul airlines do not offer different classes on their airplanes; they have no first- or business-class cabins on the planes, just coach class. This way, all of the seats are priced at the same amount, allowing the long-haul airline to sell tickets more easily to the frugal passengers upon which their service relies. It also streamlines operations onboard the airline for flight attendants, as all passengers receive the same attention and service, saving time and money for the airline.

Flying Over the Poles

While a flight from New York City to Singapore may seem like an incredibly long flight half-way around the world, long-haul airlines employ a unique trick of flying over the poles of the Earth. This technique cuts down on flying time for passengers, pilots and flight attendants, saving money on fuel costs and in time for which the airline must pay its employees. However, this trick can be a bit more risky for airlines, as there is regularly inclement weather in this region of the world. Accidents in the poles could be catastrophic and survivors may be difficult to rescue in time, due to the cold.

On-Flight Options

Many long-haul airlines also lure customers to fly with them by providing a number of different options and luxuries. These options include things such as wireless Internet on the airplane, a number of different quality meal options, free alcohol for passengers and seats that recline into beds. These in-flight options often add costs to the ticket price, but may be worth it in the long run; passengers on these long-haul airlines have a more relaxing trip.
