Plan A Fun Run

A fun run can be a great way for your group to raise money for your running club or for charity. Here is a guide to help you plan your fun run successfully.

Instructions

Planning your Fun Run

1. Decide what group will benefit from your fun run. Many groups have a run to benefit their running club, a charity or even a person struggling with medical bills from cancer.

2. Decide the date for your run. Most runs are held on Saturday mornings to get the highest attendance rate. Almost any Saturday of the year will work, but spring and fall work the best. Polar bear runs held in January or February can be successful as well.

3. Decide your route. Most fun runs are 5K long, but offering 10K and one or two-mile runs are popular as well. To help attendance, have your 5K route certified.

4. Apply for the parade permit. Municipalities usually require you to apply for a parade permit. In this process, you will set your route in stone, and set up the police support you need to keep traffic away from your run route.

5. Search for sponsors. Sponsors for your run can help with pre-run advertising, race day support, and even help with printing and design costs for the T-shirt.
