The Best Way To Sell Perfume On The Street

Selling perfume on the street is hard work. You're out in the weather making cold approaches to each potential customer. Worse still, this is a purely entrepreneurial task. You won't be working for salary here, just making a profit off of each bottle of scent you sell. This means you'll sometimes spend an entire day and come home with nothing to show for it. Like any other job, applying some basic techniques will make sure those bad days happen as rarely as possible.

Be Legitimate

Make sure you're abiding by all local laws and regulations before you start conducting business. If your town requires a permit, get the permit. If your state requires you to register your business, register. Never sell counterfeit or stolen merchandise. If you're selling on private property (such as a mall parking lot), get permission from the property owner. Keep in mind that perfumes are often subject to taxes not normally imposed on other products. Doing business right will be more expensive, but it means you can't get shut down.

Be Seen

Make sure people see you before you approach them. This accomplishes two important things. First, it lets them know what you're doing before you make your pitch and you won't frighten anybody. Frightened people are on their guard. People on their guard are hard to sell to. Second, it lets you see them see you. This means you can analyze potential customers to see who looks most open to buying from you. Hold your perfume in plain sight, allowing potential buyers to know what you're selling. Watch for open body language before making an approach.

Offer (and Honor) a Guarantee

Offer a money-back guarantee, or even a double-money-back guarantee, if the customer doesn't love your product. Studies have shown that the number of people who actually take you up on the guarantee are outweighed by the number of people who buy because of it. Provide your business card with each product so they can reach you later. This not only provides your customer with contact information for the guarantee, but lets them know reach you when they need a new bottle of perfume.

Build Your Sales Skills

Like any job, selling perfume gets easier when you know how. There are countless sales manuals, references and training courses available. Set aside time every week to study, then try what you learn in the field. Building your sales skill will mean better profits week by week. Don't shy away from sales advise in other fields: sales is sales, and what works selling cars will work selling perfume.
