Put Together A Flyer For A Business

A flyer must highlight why readers should buy your product or service.

A flyer can be an inexpensive and effective tool for publicizing your business or for promoting specific products or services. Flyers made up of a single, one-sided sheet work well on bulletin boards. You can distribute double-sided sheets door-to-door or leave them on car windshields. Accordion-folded flyers, either letter-sized, folded twice or legal-sized, folded three times, fit in standard envelopes and are great for mass mailings or direct-mail campaigns. Use cards for any of the above purposes, primarily for short messages.

Instructions

1. Prepare an overall design, obtaining a ready-made template or design program with pre-designed flyers included. Make sure you have a professional-looking logo to promote your company's image. Design with color for the most effective flyers. Design the flyer with its purpose in mind, leaving room for the title and a large area on the front to give the flyer's purpose. Prepare the general marketing text introducing your business and its characteristics. Highlight what sets you apart from competitors with a unique selling proposition and a description of how your unique way of offering your product or service will benefit the purchaser.

2. Assemble the design elements of the flyer in the size and format of paper you have chosen. Place the logo and the general marketing text in the design. Place the title of the flyer at the top in front. Place the "Call to Action" in the space left for the purpose of the flyer. If the flyer is to promote a specific event, choose a "Call to Action" such as "Buy Tickets Now!" Follow the "Call to Action" by a reason such as "Two-for-one, This Week Only."

3. Print out the flyer or have it printed. Use a color laser printer for quantities over 500 flyers. Use a printer with a resolution of at least 600 dots per inch. Use good quality, smooth paper of at least 24 lbs. weight and a brightness of close to 100. For flyers which have photographic parts to their design, use glossy paper. For cards, use cover stock of at least 80 lbs. weight. Use a guillotine-type paper cutter for cutting cards or for cutting edges to ensure straight, clean cuts.

4. Scan the flyer and attach it to emails for an inexpensive and effective way of reaching more people.
