The Job Description For A Senior Brand Manager

A senior brand manager is responsible for brand sales and marketing.


A senior brand manager in an organization has responsibility for leading all initiatives related to the sales and marketing of a company’s product or service. Leading the brand team, the senior brand manager oversees all aspects of the brand and seeks to ensure its future success. The responsibilities of a senior brand manager are many; substantial experience is often required for these positions.


Responsibilities


A senior brand manager is responsible for the marketing of a product or service in its entirety, from research and development through sales. He or she oversees the advertising for the product, directs the marketing research and manages distribution. Brand managers supervise all activities related to the brand; they are the key sources of information within the organization on the brand and on competitive products. Senior brand managers work closely with all internal departments and external suppliers involved in the sales and marketing of the product or service. It is ultimately the brand manager’s responsibility to ensure the success of the brand. He or she oversees and is accountable for the product’s financial performance.


Abilities


A senior product manager is in a position of responsibility and, as such, must be able to work independently and to make decisions that will affect others and the future of the brand. Being comfortable making public presentations is important, as is the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization. A senior product manager must be results-oriented and have demonstrated creativity through prior work.


Skills


Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software is required for a senior product manager. Familiarity with data related to the specific industry will also be required. An in-depth understanding of marketing and advertising is essential.


Experience


Most senior brand managers are required to have at least five years of brand management experience, ideally in the same industry, and some positions require up to 10 years of relevant experience. Past work in advertising, communication or media may be substituted for specific experience. Prior experience leading a team is also important to many companies.


Education


All senior brand manager positions require a bachelor’s degree; many organizations strongly prefer or require an MBA.


Salary


According to Glassdoor, salaries for senior brand managers vary across companies. At the low end, salaries may be just over $50,000, while in the upper range, a senior brand manager may be paid up to $170,000.
