Negotiate With Directv

DirecTV brings an array of television channels into subscribers' homes via satellite. This service isn't free, and subscribers will need to pay a monthly bill for equipment and TV services. Many subscribers must agree to subscribe to DirecTV programming for at least a year or pay an early-termination penalty. To lower your monthly fee or try to reduce your contract time, you may be able to negotiate with DirecTV.

Instructions

1. Read over your bill and terms of service to decide exactly what you'd like to negotiate. It's a good idea to read over these items so you become familiar with the lingo.

2. Find DirecTV's phone number on your bill and call the company. You will want to speak with an associate who handles billing or customer retention.

3. Explain to the associate what you are trying to negotiate and why. For example, if you want to lower your bill, tell the associate how long you have been a subscriber and that you would like to remain one, but your bill is a little more than you can afford. You should also let him know about positive ways you've been a DirecTV customer, such as always paying on time or in full.

4. Have the associate explain how he can help you. Remember, even if the deal is not exactly what you want, it might be worth accepting even if it reduces your bill by only a few dollars or takes a few months off your contract.

5. Speak with a supervisor if you cannot get the associate to negotiate at all. In some cases, the associate will not be able to negotiate, but the supervisor will.

6. Write down the date and time you called, as well as the name of the associate with whom you spoke. This information will be useful later if you need to discuss the terms of the negotiation.
