Get Traffic to a Blog

1. Prepare to get more traffic to your blog. Check that your blog is ready for visitors by providing a good amount of quality content in conjunction with good design, before you try to increase traffic. If your blog is not useful, interesting, or appealing in some perceived way, the visitors who do come will not stay long or return to your blog.

2. Ping the blog. A ping notifies the search engines that you recently updated your blog or website. You can setup automatic pinging in your blog’s settings. In a WordPress blog, click on the “Settings” or “Blog Options” link in the admin dashboard. Click the “Advanced Options” link, and the following page has a text box where you type in the pinging services websites. Add up to 10 pinging services on the list such as the following: http://ping.feedburner.com http://ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php http://rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger/ http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2

3. Go to a multiple pinging service instead of (or in addition to) Step 2. Go to Pingates.com or Pingoat.com, check all the services to ping, fill in your blog title and URL, and click on “Send Ping.”

4. Connect with people online to market your blog. Post useful comments to related forums with a signature link to your blog. Bookmark and comment on other people’s blogs and they will often return the favor. Some of their visitors will visit your blog if it is a related theme and you post a helpful comment.

5. Post new information to the blog more frequently. Increase the publishing schedule and publish a blog post every day or a few times daily if possible. If it is too much for you, consider writing a blog post at least twice a week. Also, consider hiring a freelance writer or blogger to produce more content on a regular basis.

6. Use search engine optimization. Use keyword phrases in your blog post’s title, at the beginning, middle, and end of your post. Add as many tags that are relevant—they act as keywords and help get more traffic to your blog through search engines.

7. Try various online and offline marketing tactics such as classified ads, press releases, article marketing, website directories, e-zines, and direct mail. Advertise your blog using free and paid methods. Track and test the different methods for the most effective way to get visitors to your blog. Focus on the most efficient methods to increase traffic regularly.
