Motor vehicle racing is a thrilling, but dangerous sport that must be taken seriously.
Motor racing has intrigued people since the invention of motor vehicles. It is especially popular in Western culture, and is held in many categories such as NASCAR, dirt biking, rally car racing, drag racing, go-kart racing and others. There are also various tracks that have different terrains, shapes and obstacles that pose new challenges to different types of racers. If you are interested in motor racing, there are many opportunities available, and getting into high-level racing can be easier than getting into other amateur and professional sports.
Instructions
1. Decide which type of racing you want to try. There are many kinds of motor racing, and depending on the area you live in, you will have a different selection of possible sports. For example, you won't be able to race snowmobiles in Florida, but you could race jet skis without having to travel more than two hours to an ocean or lake.
2. Visit the nearest local track for the type of racing you're interested in. Stars, record breakers and professional racers had to start small in places such as these. Watch races and take note of how things are done. Show up early and talk to the track director and other racers.
3. Ask questions. If you don't ask, you may never find out what you want to know, and most event participants are willing to help steer you in the right direction.
4. Follow the enrollment or sign-up procedures required by the track. Most small, local tracks will let you race immediately if you have a valid license for your vehicle, pay the fees and can follow directions. In some states you can begin racing as early as 16 years of age.
5. Race in as many events as you can. Some events and competitions offer prizes, such as cash, and scouts for professional racing companies may be at your events. In addition, when you have experience as a racer you can try out for even larger events.
