Find Followers On Twitter

Do you use Twitter? Twitter allows you to update your status regularly, follow your friends, share information, and promote a business, Web site or blog. Whether you use Twitter as a hobby or to promote your Web site, blog or business, finding followers is an important part of the Twitter process. Fortunately you can find followers in at least a few different ways. Following the steps laid out in this article will help you find and retain Twitter followers.

Instructions

Find Followers on Twitter

1. Find people to follow on Twitter. When you follow people, they will often follow you back.

2. Log in to your Twitter account. Go to Twitter (www.twitter.com) and type in your username and password. Once you are logged in, click on the "Find People" link in the upper right corner of the screen.

3. Choose which option you want to use to find people on Twitter: "Find on Other Networks," "Find People on Twitter" or "Suggested Users."

4. Add followers. If you want to find people by typing in a Twitter username, click on the "Find People on Twitter" tab at the top of the page. After the page loads, type the Twitter username you are looking for in the search box and hit "Search." If the Twitter username is in the system, it will come up in the search results. If it is not in the system, Twitter will display Twitter usernames similar to the one you typed. Click on the username in the search results you want to add to the people you follow. Then click "Follow," which is located under the username on the person's profile page. To find people on other networks (by e-mail), click the "Find on Other Networks" tab on the top of the "Find People" page. Click on the type of e-mail account you have on the left-hand side of the page. Then type your e-mail address and password into the fields provided and hit "Continue." Twitter will find people who are in your address book who also have Twitter accounts for you and display them in the search results. Click on the username of the person you want to add. Then click on the "Follow" button, located under his or her username on his/her profile page. If you do not know anyone on Twitter, you can click on "Suggested Users" on the "Find People" page. Twitter will bring up a list of Twitterers they deem worthy of following. Check the box by each Twitterer you want to add to the people you follow list and click the "Follow" button at the bottom of the screen.

5. Invite people to join Twitter and follow you. Go to the "Find People" page. Then click on the "Invite by Email" tab at the top of the page. Type in the e-mail addresses of the people you would like to invite to follow you in the box provided. Remember to separate each e-mail address you enter with a comma. When you are done entering e-mail addresses, hit the "Invite" button at the bottom of the screen.

6. Ask for followers. Log in to your Twitter account. Once you are on the main pain, ask for followers in the "What are you doing?" box. You can say something like, "I'm looking for new followers, and I'd appreciate it if you follow me. I'll follow you back in return," or, "I'd love to meet new people. Please follow me, and I'll follow you back. Look forward to tweeting with you."

7. Tweet useful, interesting and/or informative things. People who tweet things and links that are useful, informative and/or interesting tend to attract followers.

8. Use hashtags. Hashtags allow people to find you using Twitter Search. To create a hashtag, put a # sign in front of the subject you are tweeting about at the end of your tweet. For instance, if you tweet, "I am working on an article for O, The Oprah Magazine," you could put #writing at the end of your tweet for its hashtag so that your tweet would read, "I'm working on an article for O, The Oprah Magazine. #writing."

9. Repeat the steps above as necessary to find followers on Twitter.
