Yoga, a spiritual mind-body therapy from India, has become popular as an exercise and a method of relieving stress in the West. Practitioners vary in age, from young children to older adults. With a population of over 1 million people, Dallas is a prime market for yoga instructors. You can become an instructor after you complete a training class and obtain certification.
Instructions
1. Complete a 200-hour teacher-training course in yoga. You may take this course at a school approved by the Yoga Alliance, the organization responsible for promoting the advancement of yoga. Yoga Alliance provides a list of schools on its website and you may use it to locate a school in Dallas, Texas. Students receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training program.
2. Register with the Yoga Alliance when you complete the training course. Inclusion on the list of registered teachers shows employers that you have met the organization's stringent training standards. You may register online. Submit a copy of your certificate and the $80 application fee to complete your registration.
3. Apply for a position as a yoga instructor at studios, gyms and fitness centers in Dallas. Employers need proof of your qualifications and experience, such as your yoga certification. Some employers may require additional qualifications, like the group exercise certification that you can obtain from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and the American Council on Exercise. You can also apply to employers outside the fitness industry. For example, some corporations offer exercise programs to employees and the City of Dallas' Park and Recreation program includes fitness classes for residents.
4. Start a business, if you desire flexibility and independence. You can offer private classes to individual clients at their homes or offer group classes in a studio or outdoors. If you wish to operate your own yoga business, visit Dallas' City Hall to register your business name and obtain a business license.
