List Of Jobs Related To Entertainment Marketing Careers

Effective marketing in the entertainment industry can mean the difference between million-dollar success stories and utter failure. It is for this reason that marketing careers abound in the entertainment industry. Musicians and actors alike seek representation to assist them in crafting an image and to make sure the right thing is always said at just the right time.

Publicist

The main role of a publicist in entertainment marketing is to obtain press coverage for his client. A publicist is often the third party connecting an artist with the media for interviews and appearances. The overarching goal is to keep the client in the public eye and in the forefront of the national consciousness. A publicist should expertly craft statements for his client to be issued to the press and other media outlets as part of damage-control procedures during a crisis. According to The Princeton Review, this job is stressful and requires long hours, with little in the way of financial compensation in return.

Artist Manager/Agent

Talent agents and managers work with musicians, actors and other entertainment personalities in securing them work contracts and promotional appearances. According to the Job Profiles website, a large portion of a talent agent's day is taken up in networking with photographers, directors and venue coordinators to ensure that clients are put in touch with the correct people and projects to be successful. The success of a client is important to a talent agent or manager for several reasons: an agent is usually paid a percentage of a contract he negotiates for his client; the success of a client acts as advertising for other potential talent to sign with him.

Brand Manager

Brand management is the art of sculpting a client's image to make him more marketable for certain demographics and products. Brand managers develop business strategies to maximize a client's earning power in the marketing world. These strategies can include which products to consider endorsing, which regional markets to target, and even how a client is portrayed in endorsement commercials. Effective brand managing can be seen in the public life of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, whose commercial appearances for food products and electronics have painted him as funny and likable, while his work in the sports drink arena has maintained his image as an elite athlete.

Marketing Coordinator

A marketing coordinator in the entertainment industry directly oversees the promotional career of his client. A marketing coordinator may be the final word in determining the best course of action for a marketing campaign before submitting proposals to the artist for final confirmation. He also approves all statements issued by the artist and works closely with a client's publicist in crafting all material distributed to the media pertaining to a client.
