Track Global Mail

Track international mail using the Postal Service, or express package companies.

Sending packages, and other mail, to addresses within the United States with the Postal Service has typically been a straightforward process; that was enhanced with the introduction of priority mail which shortened delivery times to two or three days, depending on the destination. Tracking domestic mail with the U.S. Postal Service is usually limited to choosing the express mail option, but if you're sending mail to international destinations, you have multiple options whether you use the U.S. Postal Service, or an express package delivery company.

Instructions

U.S. Postal Service

1. Visit your local post office. Determine the manner in which you want to send your mail. International tracking is only available for Global Express Guaranteed, Express Mail International and Priority Mail International.

2. Fill out the form associated with the international mail option you've selected. Make sure you keep a copy of the form, or the receipt, that you receive from the postal service representative.

3. Visit the U.S. Postal Service website, usps.com. Locate the label or receipt number from your receipt, and enter it into the "Track and Confirm" box. Click "Go."

4. Read the information provided, which may include the acceptance date of your mail by a Postal Service employee, the date your mail was processed through a sorting facility, the date your mail arrived at the postal unit for final delivery and the date your mail was delivered, refused or forwarded to another address.

Package Service

5. Visit your local express package service store, or mail depot, that offers UPS, Federal Express and DHL.

6. Determine the manner in which you want to send your mail, based on destination and the speed with which you want your mail to arrive. Fill out the appropriate forms.

7. Visit the Web site of the express package company. Locate the rectangular box that reads "Select your location," and choose "United States" from that pull-down menu.

8. Select "Tracking" or "Track a Shipment," and enter the tracking number listed on the receipt you received from your transaction.
