Top Rated Mobile Phone Companies

Top Rated Mobile Phone Companies

Over eighty percent of the United States population now own cell phones, and with growing technology, cell phones can be used for an increasing variety of activities. Tasks such as going online, reading e-mails, sending text messages and even taking pictures and videos, can now be done from a phone. With this ever increasing reliance on cell phones, choosing a quality provider is crucial. There are many companies to choose from, but a few stand out well above the rest.

Verizon Wireless

According to Consumer Search, customers and experts alike agree that Verizon features the best call quality, the result of an extremely wide service area and consistently strong signal. Fewer dropped calls and less circuit overloads helps Verizon maintain the largest customer base of all the wireless companies, falling just shy of 80 million after buying out Alltel in January 2009. Verizon offers a wide variety of plans starting as low as $40 a month, and also features free nights and weekends. The company's biggest weakness is pricing, which is typically a little higher than the other major carriers.

AT&T

Featuring arguably the most impressive variety of smartphones (according to CNET.com) and data devices, which give users the option to do internet related activities, AT&T is the nation's second largest carrier, providing wireless service to roughly 73 million subscribers. AT&T is also the exclusive carrier of the popular Apple iPhone and features "Rollover Minutes," which allow the customer to save any unused minutes from a monthly plan and continue accumulating them towards the next month.

Sprint

Partnering with Nextel, Sprint is the third largest cell phone provider in the country. Nextel, which merged with Sprint in 2005, is a very business oriented company, as they pioneered Push-To-Talk technology and offer the ability to add a second line to a cell phone. Sprint offers extended night and weekend hours with its "Power Pack" plan and was the second company to unveil 3G coverage to customers seeking faster data speeds.

T-Mobile

The smallest of the four major companies, T-Mobile also has the smallest coverage area and was the last to launch 3G services. However, the company offers extremely competitive price plans, and introduced the popular "MyFaves" feature, which allows a customer to choose five numbers and get unlimited calling at all times to those selected people. T-Mobile has also received the highest customer service rating from J.D. Power and Associates, and boasts an increasingly diverse variety of smartphones.
