Drink Bubble Tea

Bubble tea has become a popular drink across the world.

Sometimes called pearl tea, boba tea or bubble drink, bubble tea is the name for a cold, sweet tea made from a mix of tea, milk, sugar and large black tapioca balls. The tea was created in Taiwan in the late 1980s and has since become a popular drink in Western society. The bubble part of the name refers to the foam that is created by shaking the freshly brewed tea with ice, as the tea is always shaken, not stirred. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Bring 6 to 8 cups of water to boil in a large pot.

2. Add 1 cup of tapioca pearls slowly to the water. The pearls should float, so keep stirring the tea to keep them afloat and to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

3. Boil the tapioca pearls for around 20 to 25 minutes and then turn off the heat. Let the pearls sit uncovered for another 25 minutes. The final consistency of the pearls should be similar to a gummy candy.

4. Drain the water from the pot and rinse the tapioca pearls with warm water. Set the pearls aside in a bowl.

5. Boil the kettle and make a pot of regular black tea. While the tea is still hot, add in some sugar to sweeten the drink. Place this in the refrigerator and let chill for at least an hour.

6. Pour one part tea, one part milk and a a few pieces of ice into a shaker and shake until well mixed.

7. Place a few tapioca pearls in the bottom of a cup. Pour the mixture from your shaker over the pearls. Add a few more pearls to the drink and then place a wide plastic straw in each drink.
