Check Dns Lookup

The Domain Name Service (DNS) server translates the domain names you enter into your Web browser to IP addresses. IP addresses are the numerical values assigned to computers, so the sender and recipient of data can "find" each other on the network. You can check your DNS settings using the "NSLookup.exe" tool available in all Windows versions. The NSLookup tool lets you verify that the DNS lookups are working on your computer.

Instructions

1. Click the Windows "Start" Orb in the task bar and type "cmd" into the text box. Press "Enter" to open the MS DOS command prompt.

2. Type "nslookup" and press "Enter." This displays your default DNS server and the server's address. This verifies that you have a DNS server configured for your computer.

3. Type "nslookup name" where "name" is the domain name you access on the Internet." Press "Enter." This displays the DNS settings for the domain. This tells you if your domain name's Web host is properly configured, so users can find the website on the Internet.
