Advertise a Business for Free

1. Set up a free blog on Wordpress or Blogger. On the Blogger home page, click the large orange button that says, "Create a blog." On the Wordpress home page, click the large blue button that says, "Sign Up Now!" Follow the simple steps on the website to create your blog.

Start making regular posts to your blog, on topics related to your business and industry. Encourage readers to participate in your community by commenting on your posts.

2. Post ads on free classified sites such as Craigslist. Choose an appropriate category for your advertisement and follow the posting rules of each site. Failure to follow the posting guidelines can lead to being banned from the site and can tarnish your reputation.

3. Set up a free web page on sites such as Squidoo and HubPages. Discuss topics related to your business and industry, and provide links back to your website and other contact information.

4. Create profiles on social networking sites, such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Start making connections with friends and business associates by joining groups and participating in discussions. Advertise your business by placing links to your website and other contact information in your public profile. If you have a special offer or sale going on, you can post an announcement to your contact list.

5. Donate goods or services to charity events. Charities will often recognize businesses that have made donations in newsletters, newspaper articles and event programs. While this tactic may cost you the cost of your time or the donated goods, it requires no out-of-pocket cash. Often, you can donate goods that have not sold over a period of time that you might have written off anyway.

6. Write articles and submit them to article directories. It's free to set up an account on most article directories on the Internet, and the only cost is your time. Place a special offer and a link back to your business website in the author resource box, and you can generate free traffic and sales.

7. Offer free seminars or courses in your community or on the web. Other businesses will let you use their facility to offer free seminars if it helps to promote their business as well. On the web, you can offer a seminar through email. As a business owner, you have specialized expertise that can benefit others. Offering free information positions you as an expert in your field and builds brand recognition.

8. Submit a press release on a free press release site, such as PRLog. Simply write a short article announcing a big sale, the opening of your business, the launch of your new website, or any piece of important news. Free press release distribution sites will distribute your article to news portals and press release sites around the Internet.
