Sell Tunes On Itunes

The most popular music retailers no longer resemble strip mall shops and painted mega-stores. Instead, they appear as pixels on your computer screen, digital shops where you can buy music with the click of a button. Apple's iTunes Store is one of the oldest and most popular digital retailers, but you do not need recording-industry backing to sell your music in iTunes. You can get started on iTunes without even leaving your home.

Instructions

1. Record, mix and master a full length album or EP. You can record your music by renting time in a professional studio, or by using digital recording software at home. Whatever route you choose, you may want to have your finished product mixed and mastered by an experienced engineer, in order to ensure that your project has the quality of a commercial album.

2. Sign up with a reputable online service that offers iTunes distribution. Examples include CD Baby, Nimbit, Reverb Nation, SongCast and TuneCore. These services provide you with the legal licenses that you will need to sell your music commercially: a UPC code and an ISCR. In addition, these sites will provide you with iTunes distribution directly.

3. Choose a plan offered by your selected online service. Most of these companies offer different options. For example, you may have the ability to choose between a commission or a flat-fee pricing model for distribution. You may have the option of selecting more advanced plans that include distribution with other retailers like Amazon and Rhapsody, and useful tools to help you promote your music.

4. Make your purchase and upload your music. Your selected distributer will require a valid credit card, and after the company approves your transaction, you must upload your song files from your hard drive using the website's "Upload" form. Upload each file, enter a name for each song and make sure to double-check your spelling, as you do not want to find typos after your music hits the iTunes server.
